Free Ways to Market Your Book πŸ“ˆ

Cover, title, description – make sure your book has a nice cover, a nice title, and a nice description before you even begin promotion. I guarantee that it will be extremely difficult to sell a book that people judge negatively.

Social media – post at least 3 times a week on social media. Posts should be about your author journey, your book, or anything related to your niche. For authors I recommend Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. If you’re a children’s book author, then I recommend hopping on TikTok and learn how to create content on there – right now is the best time to get thousands of video views.

Blogging – start a blog about subjects relating to your book (post the link of your book at the end of every post/article with a short sales pitch). Post subject matters that people in your niche find interesting and write it in your own words. Post at least 2 times a week. Start using Wix.com or WordPress.com (your main cost will be the domain for $12) and have your website set up, which should take less than a week.

Facebook groups – join Facebook groups relating to your niche and build your name by connecting with others and posting valuable content. For example: if you’re in fiction, join active fiction groups where people don’t just promote random things. Post valuable and interesting content (your journey, interesting news in the niche, anything useful) at least 3 times a week and make sure you read the group rules.

Collaborate – contact coordinators of local events, podcasts, shows, schools, and YouTube channels in your city (must RELATE to your niche) with ideas on a collaboration between you and them. Mention how it can benefit them and their audience (and if they accept, you’ll usually get to promote your book at the end of episodes).

Many of you will struggle to get content out, so I’d recommend starting out with one post per week. If you find a topic you’d like to post about on Facebook, then great. Now all you have to do is re-distribute it to other social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook groups, a blog post, etc.) in different formats. Instagram will be more image heavy, Twitter literally be a few sentences, and blog posts will be long-form text.

Building your brand and readership is extremely important and it also opens many opportunities.

It will be difficult in the beginning, and it was for me. But if you’re willing to learn and consistently taking action, then I guarantee you’ll start seeing positive results pretty soon.
