3 Common Publishing Sayings – True or False? βœ…πŸš«

1. Everybody can publish a book πŸ“šΒ
Yes, even if you have zero talent to write anything. Amazon and other retailers make it very easy to write and self-publish anything – there is no quality control or review process. Many β€˜good’ writers see this as the biggest downside to self-publishing, but you can use this to your advantage since less professional books almost always have poor covers, blurbs, writing, formatting, etc.

2. Self-Publishing is completely free πŸ’°
Yes and No. You can do everything on your own if you have the time and knowledge; can use templates and automated software to have your book self-published. But 90% of the time doing everything yourself won’t lead to desirable outcomes – and this is where you may need to outsource some of the self-publishing process to people who are really good at what they do (cover design, marketing, formatting, etc.)

3. I can edit my book myself – no need for an editor πŸ–ŠοΈ
No. Sure, you can self-edit, but I promise you that there’ll be tons of mistakes (I see this happen many times with author I’ve worked with in the past). An editor is a must-have. Period.
