Choose keywords which have acceptable search volume but low competition (and are of course relevant to your book). You can have seven keywords for your book. Again, when you search the keywords — make sure that the first page of results aren’t filled with authority figures and best-sellers.

Amazon allows two different main categories with initial publishing but you can add additional 10 categories once your book is live with Amazon. They offer thousands of categories & sub-categories and you can drill down within each category to find a low competitive but popular sub-category to give your book a chance to list on top. Allow pre-sales prior to publishing. This can give you an advantage with your sales rank as all pre-sales will be calculated as sales on day of release date and your rank might jump into a low figure. Usually only works if done together with my next point:

Inform them about your book to bump up your initial sales. Let your friends and family buy your book to improve initial sales rank so that hundreds and possibly thousands more readers will see you book.
